CardWise Compass / A clearer path to free travel.
Hi {{first_name | friend}}!
Today’s issue is about how two are better than one: “Player 2 mode” - the power of referrals. This little “hack” is one of my faves, and I love blowing people’s minds with it!
Friendly reminder: if you want a free video tutorial of how to valuably transfer bank points to hotels/airlines, book a free intro call by Sunday, October 11th and I’ll send it to you.
Estimated read time: 3 minutes
Today's Issue at a Glance:
Signal: A free tool that automatically finds refunds on your flights!
Strategy: Referring someone can earn you a very lucrative bonus
Scenario: What a referral is worth, in dollars
Step: Share your referral links, get your free transfer video, and reply to this email to choose a future topic for the newsletter!
Signal
About half of booked flights drop in price before departure, but who has the time to rebook?
Sky Key automatically secures those lower prices for you. Link your email (or connect a booking directly with Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, or United) and it tracks your flight price. If it drops, Sky Key secures the refund and locks in the cheaper price for you. They take 25% of whatever they find, but you pay nothing at all if they don’t find savings. Nothing to lose! It works on cash and points bookings alike, and never cancels your flight.
One thing to flag: on nonrefundable tickets, the refund usually comes back as a future flight credit with that airline, not cash. If you'd rather not take a credit, simply remove that flight from tracking in your Sky Key account.
Track your flights here. This is my referral link, a free way to support my work. Once you’re signed up, you can share your own link with friends / family; more on referring people below.
Strategy
Did you know that your credit cards will pay you in points for sharing the love with others? When someone signs up with your referral link, you can get a valuable referral bonus (anywhere from 10K points to 40K points)! As my saying goes, “friends don’t let friends apply for credit cards from generic online links.” (Nobody benefits from that!)
But here’s where we level up: Player 2 Mode. Named after video games, you as “Player 1” can refer your family member, close friend, or even your spouse to the same card you have. I know lots of married people who take advantage of this to sign up their spouse to get a card they already have. If you’re getting consistent value from it, why not double the value and get a nice kickback while doing so?
Note: bonuses vary, so just make sure your private referral link matches the best public offer.
Scenario
Let’s say your spouse, sibling, or best friend wants to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
Option 1: They apply directly through Chase’s site. You get nothing.
Option 2: Instead, they apply through your referral link. They still get the card, but you get a referral bonus of 15K Chase points, and with a conservative 1.5 cents per point value, that can easily be worth $225! Too easy.
Business cards are even more lucrative. The Chase Ink Business Preferred referral bonus goes up to 40K Chase points, worth roughly $600 at that same 1.5 cents per point. If you don’t think you qualify for a business card, I’ll change your mind in a future issue.
This works outside credit cards too. Ex: Becca referred me to join Quince (for free) 3 years ago to buy my wedding band. She got $20 in credit added to her account, and I got a $20 discount toward my wedding band: $40 saved for one link and one click. Not too shabby.
Step
Before someone you know applies for a card you already have, check your bank’s website or app for a “refer a friend” link first. Send that instead of just saying “go apply.”
Applying yourself? Using my links costs you nothing extra and keeps CardWise going: Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred were mentioned above, or feel free to ask for any links so I can get you the best offer available on the internet (even if I don’t benefit).
Reminder: if you want that free video tutorial about transferring your points, please just book a free intro call by this Sunday and I’ll send it to you! If we’ve already had a free call, I’ll be sending this to you already. No action needed on your part.
As a thank you for reading this far: reply to this email with any question you may have, and if it’s relevant for others, I’ll write an entire future issue on it, personalized for your situation!
Blessings, and I hope to hear from you soon!
